RAF Special Stamp collection cover

The Great Britain stamp was affixed to specially designed envelopes and postmarked on the first day that the cover was issued.

The special cover was bearing a pictorial cancellation of Air-force and the cover was printed with the set of four Royal Air force fighter jet planes.

Flown from RAF Lakenheath prior to the Bicentennial Air Display in USAF Phantom LN 689 on a low level navigation exercise.

The Eagles formation aerobatic team, based at RAF Lakenheath, was formed on 1st June 1976. The four Phantom aircraft are flown by American pilots from 494 Tactical Fighter Squadron. This team, the only one in Britain to fly Phantoms, will give their first display at RAF Mildenhall on 4th July 1976.

The team consists of :

Team Leader ; Captain Casmier Jaszczak from Minnesota.
Captain Stephen Plummer from Florida.
Captain Harry Calvino from Arizona.
Captain Kintner Alverson from California. Reserve Pilot : Captain Paul Lohmeyer from Kansas.

The team members, aged between 27 and 33 are full time operational pilots. They have all served overseas and Captain Alverson was engaged in active service in South Vietnam.
