Songkran Day Stamp 1996 Postage Stamp – To commemorate Songkran Day 1996 (Thai New Year’s Day in the past)

It is a Thai Buddhist festival celebrated in the month of April from 13th to 15th. In Thailand this day is celebrated as a traditional Thailand’s New Year. In Thailand’s calender It is an Auspicious day for Thai Buddhist community people, on this day they show their happiness by cleaning their houses, splashing the water to each others , offering food to the Buddhist Monks and visiting their beloved parents to give respect and get blessings from their parents. This festival day is also called as water festival day.

This festival teaches respect, cleanliness and happiness.

First Day Cover with Pictorial Postmark

The First Day Cover Illustrates two Buddhist monks blessing a Thai buddhist family at their home and receiving the food from them. A thailand stamp was affixed to specially designed envelopes and the rat pictorial postmarked on the first day that the stamp cover was issued.

Illustrates a male angel riding on a mouse’s back, encircled by 12 Zodiac signs. The year 1996 is the year of the mouse, the first of the 12 cyclical years (Each of the 12 cyclical years is represented by a certain type of animal).
