Paris Air Show – 29 May – 8 June 1975 – Postage Commemorative Special Cover


The Paris AirShow – France stamp was affixed to specially designed envelopes and bearing the different airplanes pictorial postmarked on the first day that the stamp cover was issued.

Flown by the “Gazelles” helicopter display team at Royal Air Force Station, Tern Hill on a practise display flight in preparation for the Paris Air Show

“The Gazelles” helicopter formation team is from No 1 CFS(H) Squadron, RAF Tern Hill. The team formed in 1974 and first appeared before Her Majesty The Queen Mother on 9 July 1974. The team has reformed for the 1975 season and made its first major appearance at the Paris Air Show.

The Royal Air force (RAF) team consists of:

Team Manager: Sqn Ldr Ivan Hughes, RAF, OC No 1 Sqn CFS(H).

Team Leader: Fit Lt Dennis Southern, RAF

Team No 2: Capt Philip Stinson, USAF

Team No 3:Lt Cdr Guy Heard, RN

Team No 4:Fit Lt David Spilsbury, RAF

Team Commentator: Fit Lt Robert Howley, RAF.

The team members are all experienced helicopter pilots and qualified helicopter instructors. They fly normal training aircraft, practise, and give formation displays in addition to their normal instructional and Station duties at RAF Tern Hill.
