NATIONAL LAND AFFORESTATION CAMPAIGN POSTAGE STAMP

To mark the National Land Afforestation Campaign a 50 yen postage stamp has been issued.

The nation-wide afforestation campaign was initiated systematically in 1950 to restore the national land devastated by the 2nd Great War as well as to build up the cultural and peaceful nation. Since then the campaign has been promoted for the purpose of protecting and preserving the natural environment of the national land. This year, the 27th Arbor Day ceremony, the principal function of the campaign is to be held grandly by the National Land Afforestation Promotion Committee in cooperation with the Ibaragi Prefecture on May 23 at Takashibadai, Taishi-machi, Ibaragi Prefecture in the honourable presence of Their Majesties the Emperor and Empress.
