THE TALYLLYN RAILWAY - Thematic postage stamp collection

The Talyllyn Railway Company founded in 1865 and incorporated by Act of Parliament on the 5th July that year, were soon actively engaged on the construction of the railway from Towyn up to the Bryii Eglwys Slate Quarries near Abcrgynolwyn. The two engines, No. 1 'TALYLLYN' and No. 2 'DOLGOCH' were delivered by their makers before the end of the year and were used in the construction work and are still in use. The first passengers were carried in 1867.
